Yes, this is something we have talked about before, but we are passionate about the health of your pets, and we want you to be best informed about the choices you have in caring for them.
70-80% of senior pets are experiencing the effects of diseases like kidney insufficiency or failure, thyroid hormone imbalances and diabetes, just to mention a few. They often start as mild symptoms which even the most observant owner may not see, BUT changes to the blood analytes can warn us of their presence. It’s best to catch these diseases before they become outwardly obvious because if they are caught at an early stage, we can offer diets or treatments that will slow the progression or reduce the impact on your pet as they age.
We advocate for getting a base line blood for your pet at 7 years, and then a screening test each year after that, so we are in a position to see early signs of changes to the important analytes that indicate changes to important organs. It makes sense to make this a routine part of your pet’s annual health check.
Going forward, when you get an annual health check reminder, we will outline the importance of this screening test, and when you book for your health check and vaccination, the team will ask if you would like to have the blood screening test. We can run this blood test during your appointment, and the vet can discuss the results with you immediately, but you will need to come for a slightly longer time so the blood can be collected and tested.
This screening is a comprehensive check of kidney function, diabetes, liver function and thyroid function. This is so important for your pets, that we will be offering the base line screening of 7 year old cats and dogs for FREE. That’s a value of $250. This must be done at the time of your annual health check.
Please note that this is offered as a screening of healthy pets and not as a full diagnostic test of unwell pets, so it is only available with annual health checks, not with consultations. This is a permanent offer to all of our clients. If your pet is 8 years old this year, and they missed out because this is a new offer. we are including them in the “free screening” as well, just for this year.
